Macca (Brian McLeod) takes out the KOM Jersey at the U23 National Road Champs!!

Macca showed he was in great form today after getting in the early break and securing the King of the Mountain jersey at the U23 National Road Championship in Ballarat, Victoria. Unfortunately for Macca the break away group didn't contain a Jayco AIS rider so it was also going to be a hard task to try and stay away to the finish. Macca was caught by the chasing peleton with about 3 or 4 laps to go of the 12 laps they had to complete. Another notable ride was by new Budget Forklifts rider Luke Ockerby. Luke had never raced the Nationals at Buningyong before and has mainly been focusing on track racing over the past few months so for Luke to finish the race and even counter attack when Macca was caught is a great performnace.

Stay tuned on Twitter @BudgetForklifts and SBS tomorrow 8th January for updates on the Open Mens Road Race.

Aggression almost pays off at National Criterium Champs

The open boys rode an aggressive Open National Criterium Championship getting in every breakaway, starting breakaways and getting a rider into the only break they missed. Shaun 'Macca' McCarthy finished equal 1st in the Sprint Classification only to be denied the medal on a count back. The race also saw the return to form of team captain Blair Windsor...an unfortunate bee sting and subsequent infection late in 2011 saw Blair begin the 2012 season without the form he had hoped for. So Thursday nights criterium was a pleasant race for Blair and the team. Sam Witmitz was our best placed finisher in 11th after a very hectic and eventful final couple of laps.

Cutting laps of Lake Windouree in Ballarat:

HISTORY OF LAKE WENDOUREE

The plaque on the monument opposite Pleasant Street school states, ‘Near this spot was the camp of the first resident of Ballarat, William Yuille’. In the autumn of 1838 the young Scotsman drove his flock of sheep to the shores of the swamp which was first known as Black Swamp because it was dark with thickly growing reeds. To the miners it was known as Yuille’s Swamp.

Shaun McCarthy finishes the Jayco Bay Cycle Classic in style win another WIN!

Shaun McCarthy notched up Team Budget Forklifts' 2nd win of the season by taking out the final race in the Jayco Bay Cycle Classic individual support race. Shaun tried to take the win solo after being away for half of the race but the peleton reeled him back in for a bunch sprint. Shaun's team mate Jason Spencer gave the perfect leadout for Shaun to hit out just before the last corner and hold off all challenges for another great win!

Shaun finished the series 2nd overall after 2 wins and a 2nd place. Well done!
