Daniel Braunsteins finishes 2nd in Race 1 of The Smoke Free Perth Criterium Series

Daniel Braunsteins on the podium after finishing 2nd in Race 1
Daniel Braunsteins got the Budget Forklifts team off to a great start in The Smoke Free Perth Criterium Series by finishing 2nd to World Champion and Garmin Transitions Pro Tour rider Cameron Meyer.
Anthony Giacoppo managed to escape from the bunch in the last lap and hold of the fast finishing Graeme Brown with Budget Forklifts riders Blair Windsor and Peter Herzig finishing 9th and 10th respectively.
The event lined up in the growing darkness on the streets of Joondalup. The pressure was on as soon as the neutral lap was over with Blair either instigating or making sure he was in all the early moves. At the 10min mark Daniel put in a significant attack. Cameron Meyer followed Daniel as they managed to put a small gap in the field.
Several riders tried unsuccessfully to cross to the break but they were continuously checked by Blair and Pete, and Meyer's brother Travis. The break managed to open the gap further each lap with Meyer and Braunstein posting the three fastest laps of the race as the breakaway solidified.
Several of the Plan B riders including Semple and Hall attempted to rally the chase group with Brown but were unsuccessful as Travis Meyer and the Budget Forklifts boys kept the group together. Not even a stray kangaroo could slow down the break away.
Cameron Meyer led the sprint out of the darkness with Daniel hot on his heels. Cameron, the World Points Race Champion, managed to hold off Daniel for the win.
It was a great start to the series for the Budget Forklifts boys!
